West Pokot Partners with GGBC and Perur Rays of Hope to Empower Women and Girls

H.E. Governor Simon Kachapin recently met with representatives from Global Give Back Circle (GGBC) and Perur Rays of Hope, led by Linda Lockhart and Caroline Menach, respectively, to discuss a transformative initiative aimed at empowering women and at-risk adolescent girls in West Pokot County.
Through a partnership between the Mastercard Foundation and GGBC, Perur Rays of Hope will expand the HerLab program at Morpus Rescue Center over the next three years. This initiative is set to benefit 24,000 women and girls, equipping them with essential skills for economic empowerment and community development.

Key Program Components

Technical & Vocational Training – Participants will receive hands-on training in computer operations, digital literacy, sewing, plumbing, and electrical work, ensuring they acquire marketable skills for sustainable employment.
Infrastructure Expansion – To accommodate more learners, the program will establish 12 additional training containers at the HerLab facility in Morpus.

Community Upliftment – By strengthening partnerships and expanding opportunities, the initiative aims to create lasting socioeconomic transformation for women and their communities.
This program complements the county government’s bursary and education programs, which continue to support access to both formal education and vocational training. By integrating these efforts, West Pokot County is committed to providing young women with the tools needed to achieve economic independence and meaningful societal contributions.

Governor Kachapin expressed his appreciation for the Mastercard Foundation, GGBC, and Perur Rays of Hope, emphasizing that education and skills development are key to breaking cycles of poverty and creating a brighter future for women and girls in the county.

The County Government remains dedicated to fostering partnerships that promote gender empowerment and sustainable development.
