WEST POKOT COUNTY REPRESENTED IN EAC CONSTITUTION DRAFTING
Deputy Governor Robert Komolle represented a team from West Pokot County at a public participation forum that presented issues to be considered while drafting the Constitution for East Africa Community (EAC) political confederation held at EKA Hotel, Eldoret.
The meeting, facilitated by Constitutional Experts from DRC Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan and Rwanda, aimed to deliberate on a draft Constitution that will govern the confederation and highlight on shared values and interests.
This constitution, when passed, will greatly benefit the county as the residents own cross-border land, get education across East Africa, employment and conduct business across the borders.
The deputy governor said it was an honor for the county to be called upon to present issues for consideration while developing the EAC’s Constitution.
Key issues raised were; free movement within the EAC countries, free ownership of businesses and land, free entry into educational institutions and employment and harmonised judicial system.
He was accompanied by CEC Lands Esther Chelimo, County Attorney Robert Katina, County Solicitor Magal, Rev. Chumum, Deputy County Commissioner Emily Ogola, Hon. Serem Siyoi, Hon. Alukulem Riwo, Hon. Loboo Kasei, Hon Mengich Sekerr, Director Governor's Press Nicholas Siwatom.
Other guests included the Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Hon. Jonathan Bii, Former Busia Senator Hon Amos Wako, the EAC Secretariat and representatives from EAC member states.
