West Pokot County Launches Component 3 of KISIP II with GEODEV Kenya Limited
West Pokot County has officially welcomed GEODEV Kenya Limited, under the leadership of G.G. Wagah, as the consulting firm for implementing Component 3 of the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project II (KISIP II). This partnership will play a key role in addressing urban challenges and improving the livelihoods of residents in informal settlements.
The launch meeting, attended by senior county officials and key stakeholders, outlined the project's focus on enhancing institutional capacity and implementing strategic interventions to improve urban planning and management.
Key Objectives of Component 3:
-Mapping Informal Settlements: Providing accurate data for evidence-based urban planning.
-Developing and Managing Geodatabases: Supporting efficient planning and resource allocation.
-Strengthening Urban Management Capacity: Equipping the county to sustainably manage urban growth and development.
Hon. Esther Chelimo, County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban Development, emphasized the significance of the initiative:
"This project is a critical step toward transforming informal settlements into vibrant urban spaces. By enhancing institutional capacity, we are paving the way for sustainable urban development across West Pokot County."
Sally Lesas, representing the KISIP II National Coordinating Team, commended the county's active participation:
"West Pokot County has demonstrated commendable dedication to KISIP II. The success of Component 3 will set a solid foundation for inclusive and sustainable urban growth."
