West Pokot County Holds Sensitization Forum on Guidelines for Sector Reports and Statistical Abstract Preparation

West Pokot County throughout the Department of Finance and Economic Planning convened a sensitization meeting aimed at streamlining the preparation of sector reports for the FY 2026/27–2027/28 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the development of the County Statistical Abstract 2024.

The forum, held at ELCK Lutheran, Kapenguria, brought together key decision-makers, including County Executive Committee Members (CECs), Chief Officers (COs), and departmental heads. It sought to provide guidelines for preparing sectoral reports and strengthen inter-departmental collaboration for improved planning and budgeting.

Speaking during the event, CEC Joshua Rutto (Finance & Planning) emphasized the need to kickstart the activities of Sector Working Groups (SWGs). These groups will play a crucial role in aligning departmental priorities with the broader goals of the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) and ensuring efficient use of resources in the MTEF period.

Additionally, the development of the County Statistical Abstract 2024 was highlighted as a critical component of evidence-based decision-making. The CSA is data collection tool designed to enhance data accuracy and comprehensiveness. The tool will serve as a resource for departments to collect, analyze, and present data that reflects the county’s development trends and socio-economic status.

Isaac Ritakou, Director for Planning noted that reliable data and well-prepared sector reports were indispensable for informed decision-making. 

“They form the backbone of effective governance, enabling us to prioritize projects that have the most significant impact on our communities,” he noted.

The departmental heads will leveraging on the statistical abstract to monitor progress, identify gaps, and set achievable targets for the county’s development agenda.
