WEST POKOT COUNTY GOVERNMENT DISCUSSES KEY URBAN DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS WITH STATE DEPARTMENT
The County Government of West Pokot, under the leadership of Governor H.E. Simon Kachapin, recently met with Charles Hinga, Principal Secretary of the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, at Ardhi House in Nairobi. The discussions centered on pivotal urban development projects for the region.
Key outcomes from the meeting include:
1. Population Capture for Kapenguria Municipality:
Under the Kenya Urban Support Program Phase 2 (KUSP II), accurate population
data for Kapenguria Municipality was prioritized to ensure proper resource
allocation and service provision.
2. Support for Chepareria Municipality: The
meeting also addressed Chepareria Municipality's request for support under KUSP
II, which is essential for its infrastructure and service development.
3. Infrastructure Upgrades in Informal
Settlements: The Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project Phase 2 (KISIP
II) was discussed, focusing on infrastructure planning and upgrades for
informal settlements in Kabichbich, Makutano, Chepareria, and Aramaket. This
includes addressing land tenure issues and regularization to enhance community
stability and growth, consequently improving living conditions and
accessibility.
4. Educational Facility Improvements: The
renovation of Konyao Arid Zone Primary School highlights the county's
commitment to enhancing educational facilities in arid areas.
5. Housing and Market Center Development:
Discussions also covered designated land for affordable housing programs and
market center development across West Pokot, aiming to boost the local economy
and ensure sustainable urban management.
Governor Kachapin was accompanied by the County
Executive Committee for Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, and Urban
Development, Esther Chellmo, Chief Officer Mathew Rionokol, Kapenguria
Municipality representatives, and other county officials.
