TVET Sector in West Pokot gets a Rebranding Boost from Zizi Afrique

Zizi Afrique in conjunction with the County Government of West Pokot today has launched a County wide Campaign to sensitize and encourage the community to embrace TVETs.

The campaign that majorly targets the youth is dubbed "Form ni TVET skills for Life".

The colourful event was graced by County Executive Committee Member for Education and Technical Training Mrs. Rebecca Kide accompanied by CECs Martin Lotee (PSM & ICT), Joshua Siwanyang (Tourism, youth, sports, Culture and social services) and MCAs Hon. Ozil Kaseuseu and Hon. Rashid Talam.

The youth form the largest part of the Kenyan population at 78%. This group is majorly affected by unemployment, drug abuse, lack of skills and criminal activities. It is for these reasons among others that Zizi Afrique stepped up and aligned itself with the government's agenda of ensuring youth get skills to improve livelihoods through TVET programs.

Speaking during the event, that was held at Kapenguria Vocational Training Center, Mrs. Rebecca Kide elaborated the efforts that the County Government is putting in place to support TVETs. She mentioned the rapid distribution of bursary to aid in cushioning the students against lack of fees.

The CEC member also highlighted the key infrastructural development and equipment support that the County has put into place to elevate the status of the TVET institutions in the County. She mentioned the importance of skills in aligning the youth for employment in the industries that are setting foot in West Pokot County including the Cement Factory at Sebit and fertilizer factory in Chepareria.

All the leaders who spoke at the event thanked the donors and partners for their continued support for the county to improve the livelihoods of its county residents.

The campaign aims at increasing the enrollment rate from the current 1350 to 2000 students in the seven county VTCs
