NETFUND and West Pokot County Partner to Restore Cherangany Forest Ecosystem
H.E Simon Kachapin has received a delegation from The National Environment Trust Fund (NETFUND) led by its CEO Samson Toniok to discuss implementation of Restoration and Sustainable Management of Cherangany Forest Ecosystems for Climate Change Resilience and Improved Livelihoods Project.

The €4 million (KSh 690 million) project aims at restoring and sustainably managing the Cherangany Forest Ecosystem. Funded by the Italian Government through the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the four-year initiative seeks to enhance climate resilience and improve livelihoods for forest-adjacent communities.
The project will be implemented in Lelan, Siyoi, Weiwei, and Sekerr wards. It aspires to contribute to Kenya’s goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032 while addressing deforestation, land degradation, and community-driven conservation efforts.

As the project moves into the implementation phase, collaboration among government agencies, development partners, and local communities will be key to its success.
Governor Kachapin reiterated the need for strategic deployment of resources to ensure the most impactful interventions in the restoration of the Cherangany Forest, a critical water tower for Kenya.
