Ministry of Health Hosts Meeting on GBV, Child Protection, and Family Planning
The Ministry of Health held a significant meeting at Horizon Hotel to address key issues such as gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, and family planning methods.
Attendees included Chief Officer of Culture, Tourism, and Social Services Paul Lalat, representatives from PS Kenya, Gender Violence Recovery Centre (GVRC), Population Services International (PSI), Declares Kenya, Deputy County Commissioner Emily Ogola, the Council of Elders, the Director of Gender from the National Government, the Director of Children Services, and the National Child Protection Unit (NCPU) Coordinator.
The meeting, funded by DANIDA and led by a consortium including PS Kenya, GVRC, and PSI, featured presentations of the latest research findings from West Pokot County. These findings are designed to guide program development and advocate for more effective implementation in the county.The session emphasized the need for a multi-sectoral approach to tackling GBV and health issues, stressing the importance of stakeholder collaboration to create comprehensive solutions.
Chief Officer Paul Lalat called on all stakeholders to actively educate the West Pokot community about the dangers of female genital mutilation (FGM) and promote education among young children to prevent early pregnancies. He also highlighted the importance of vigilance in reporting potential FGM cases to ensure timely protection for victims.
