Governor Kachapin Calls for Strengthened Cross-Border Cooperation at Key Regional Meeting
Governor Simon Kachapin met with dignitaries from the Republic of Uganda led by Uganda's 1st Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Rebecca Alitwala, Hon. Beatrice Askul Moe, Cabinet Secretary for the East Africa Community, ASALS, and Regional Development where discussions centered on peace and cooperation.
Governor Kachapin emphasized the close ties between Kenya and Uganda, especially in border communities of Karamoja, Sebei, Turkana, and Pokot, noting that these communities share common challenges and aspirations.
He acknowledged that addressing issues such as insecurity and resource scarcity is critical for the region's development.
Reflecting on the 2019 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Kenya and Uganda, which focused on cross-border peace and development, he noted that while progress has been made, more effort is needed to meet the MOU's goals. He called for a renewed commitment to enhance peace, develop infrastructure, and share resources—crucial steps toward unlocking the socio-economic potential of the border communities.
