Government Delegation Reviews Key Development Projects in West Pokot, Announces Loan Waiver for Farmers
A high-level delegation, led by Principal Secretary Harsama Kello from the State Department for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Governor Simon Kachapin before embarking on an assessment of key government development projects in West Pokot.

The delegation is reviewing the progress of major initiatives undertaken by the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA), including the Weiwei Irrigation Scheme intake and piping system and the Morpus Water Project. These projects are crucial in enhancing agricultural productivity and improving access to clean water for residents.
During the visit, PS Kello acknowledged the historical challenges faced by West Pokot and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating development in the region. As part of efforts to support farmers, the PS announced a Ksh 47 million loan waiver for members of the Weiwei farming community. This comes after local farmers petitioned H.E. President William Ruto for financial relief. The government has already waived Ksh 4 million, and the latest relief aims to boost agricultural production and ease financial constraints for farmers.
Security concerns along the Chesegon border were also discussed, with the PS assuring continued government support for National Police Reservists (NPRs). He emphasized that the government remains committed to providing both food and non-food supplies to security personnel operating in the area.

The KVDA management team, led by CEO Sammy Naporos, accompanied the delegation, highlighting the authority’s dedication to transforming the livelihoods of residents in arid and semi-arid areas through strategic development projects.
