First Phase of Hass Avocado Seedlings Distribution Launched to Drive Agricultural Growth

The County Government of West Pokot under the leadership of Governor Simon Kachapin, is committed to enhancing agricultural productivity and supporting local farmers as part of its drive towards sustainable growth.
Through the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, the administration launched the first phase of Hass avocado seedlings distribution program at Kapenguria Ward in Karas.
This initiative, led by Thomas Wasike, County Project Coordinator for the Emergency Locust Response Project (ELRP), aims to empower local farmers by distributing over 500 Hass avocado seedlings in this initial phase. By promoting Hass avocado farming, Governor Kachapin's administration seeks to boost household income, improve food security, and diversify the county’s agricultural base.
This distribution is the first of several phases planned under the ELRP and aligns with the Governor's broader vision of "Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Growth." The program will continue across the county until April next year, with further phases of seedling distribution set to follow, expanding the impact on communities throughout West Pokot County.
