Deputy governor H.E Robert Komolle led celebrations at Parasinda Primary School, Cherangan, to mark the celebration of an open defecation free Cherangan sub location in North Pokot.

This commemoration marks a significant milestone in the journey from open defecation to healthy living. Open defecation for a long time posed health hazards exposing communities to risks of severe illnesses.

Speaking during the event, deputy governor Komolle acknowledged the Health and Sanitation Department’s tremendous efforts through Sanitation and Nutrition (SanNut) Program in collaboration with other partners towards an open defecation-free area location.

The Sanitation and Nutrition (SanNut) program, implemented in partnership with Peace Winds Japan, ACF, UNICEF and the Ministry of Health, has been very instrumental in driving positive change within the communities. Various health issues including sanitation, hygiene and improvement of nutrition have been addressed thereby ensuring holistic wellbeing of West Pokot residents.
