County Government Launches New System to Support Poverty Reduction in West Pokot

Deputy Governor Robert Komolle  officiated a three-day workshop aimed at developing the Ultra Poor Graduation Model Management Information System (UPG MIS) for West Pokot County. The system will serve as a central tool for tracking and supporting poverty alleviation efforts, enabling data-driven decisions that directly benefit local communities.
The UPG MIS is designed to collect, analyze, and disseminate critical information to support the Ultra Poor Graduation Model—a framework focused on lifting the county’s most vulnerable households out of extreme poverty.

Deputy Governor Komolle highlighted the transformative potential of the UPG MIS in improving how the county government plans and implements poverty reduction programs.
“This system is a powerful tool for data collection and analysis, enabling us to make well-informed decisions that positively impact the livelihoods of our communities,” said Komolle. “The county government is committed to seeing this initiative through, as it has the potential to truly change lives.”

The two-year program, supported by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, will enable Business Savings Groups (BSGs) to access funding for starting new enterprises. These groups will be pivotal in driving local economic growth and fostering financial independence among residents.
Village Enterprise, a long-standing partner in West Pokot’s poverty reduction efforts, was commended by Komolle for its role in helping communities transition from poverty to self-sufficiency. This collaboration will contribute greatly towards sustainable development in our county as we continue to leverage innovative solutions to address poverty and improve the quality of our people.
