CEC Martin Lottee Leads Review of Study on Cattle Rustling in North Pokot and Loima Sub-Counties

Hon. Martin Lottee, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Public Service Management, Devolved Units, and Administration, led a session to debrief, review, and validate the findings of a comprehensive study on cattle rustling in North Pokot and Loima sub-counties. The study, titled “E-Bell and Resource Theft: Understanding Causes and Outcomes of Cattle Rustling Among the Pokot and Turkana Communities in Kenya,” was conducted between July 2022 and September 2024.

Led by Dr. Salau Rogei, a post-doctorate research fellow at Carleton University, Canada, the research was supported by SPARC, ILRI, and MITACS Canada. It explores the underlying causes and impacts of cattle rustling between the Pokot and Turkana communities, offering insights that will aid in conflict resolution, policy development, and raising awareness among local communities, government agencies, and NGOs.

Joining Hon. Lottee at the review were officials from the County Directorate of Peace, including Rev. Jackson Alukusia, Director for Peace, along with Rainson Apakamoi and Veronica Chepososir, among other county officials.

The findings from this study are expected to play a crucial role in shaping policies and strategies aimed at reducing conflict and promoting peace between the two communities.
